Why the campaign to close the RLHH? Established in 1844 it has seen more success than statins or many other “scientifically proven” drugs, many of which have been taken off the market or been recycled to treat newly invented disease names when there’s nothing new in a drug company’s pipeline to satisfy the shareholders. Prof Rachel Cooper has documented some problems with medical research (including “research” being ghost-written)\u00a0in her book Psychiatry and Philosophy of Science<\/em>\u00a0<\/a><\/span>and Prof Susan Haack did likewise with the trials into Vioxx, the arthritic drug, in her book Putting Philosophy to Work<\/a><\/em><\/span>.\u00a0Along the same lines, the New York Times reported that GlaxoSmithKline recently “Agreed to plead guilty <\/a><\/span>to criminal charges and pay $3 billion in fines for promoting its best-selling antidepressants for unapproved uses and failing to report safety data about a top diabetes drug.”<\/span><\/p>\n
